You guys are my last hope. I installed Ubuntu on my computer and have been trying to get my CAC reader to work for about three weeks. MilitaryCAC.com has good info, unfortunately nothing that helped me. I got three months of travel claims backed up and no way to submit them. Any guidance or an expert would be awesome. I have been in this sub-reddit for about a year and have seen some interesting posts, so I figured, might as well.

EDIT 2: In case anyone happens across this post, I have the answer. A VPN. As soon as I got a VPN running everything worked perfectly, I did not need to do any of that crazy stuff.

EDIT:Thanks for the advice so far. Currently, I am using the twice stated advice of 'http://www.spi.dod.mil/lipose.htm'. I had no idea that there was something like this program or OS. I am running into a slight problem in creating a bootable flash disk, but I believe it can be solved within the hour.

My current setup : ASUS laptop, IOGEAR GSR 203 card reader, firefox and Ubuntu 14.04.

Works on the following IOGear CAC reader models:

GSR202, GSR202V, & GSR203

1. Information

Some IOGear CAC readers have a firmware version that will not work on a Mac (AU9540), this page will show you how to change it to AU9520, which will work on your Mac using a program called EepromMP.

2. This procedure must be completed using a Windows computer (or Bootcamped Mac), it will not work using a virtual version of Windows (i.e. Parallels, VMware, or Virtual Box)

2.1 Install the AU9540_V1.7.2.0 driver (from the CD in the box), then plug in the GSR202, GSR202V, or GSR203 to your Windows computer.You may also download it from: http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GSR202

2.2 Double click EepromMP.exe found at: http://militarycac.com/CACDrivers/iogear/AU9540_EEPROM.zipAU9540 reader will look like Figure 1. Click the Setting button (DO NOT insert your CAC in the reader).

2.3 Match your screen to the information below completely, and then click OK to go back to the main page. (Figure 2)
